Do you know that it only take a few simple steps to backup your Windows registry. I'm sure all of you can do it instantly. "But why do I have to backup my registry?", you asked. There may be a time when you may need to update or edit Windows registry to install software on your PC. Doing so sometimes can cause the Windows registry become corrupted, which eventually will damage applications installed on your computer.
Ok, enough talking. Here are some simple steps to back up your Windows registry file.
- Open the Registry Editor from Start->Run and type "regedit" (without quotes) and then press enter.
- If the Registry Editor dialog box is open, click on the File->Export menu.
- Export Registry File dialog box is now opened, choose "All" on the Export Range option.
- Choose a place in your hard drive to save your Registry file and give a name for it (pick .reg format as the file type) and hit the Save button.
The Windows registry backup process is now complete, so you close the Registry Editor window for now.
To load the registry backup file, open Registry Editor and click on File->Import menu. Browse to the backup file that you've saved previously and then click Open.
